George Strait, known as the "King of Country," is an American country music singer, songwriter, actor, and music producer. Born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas, Strait is known for his neotraditionalist country style, cowboy look, and being one of the first and main country artists to bring country music back to its roots.
With a career spanning more than four decades, Strait has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has more than 60 number-one hits on the Billboard country music charts, more than any other artist in any genre.
Strait's success began in the 1980s with the release of his debut single "Unwound" in 1981. Throughout his career, he has released 30 studio albums, with his most successful being "Pure Country" (1992), which sold over 6 million copies. His signature songs include "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "The Chair," and "Check Yes or No."
Beyond his musical achievements, Strait is known for his humble personality and dedication to traditional country music values. He has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and has received numerous awards, including Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association awards.
